The temple is located in the area Condongcatur Gebang, south of the village of Gebang, Ngemplak District, Sleman District, approximately 11 Kilometers from the city center. The invention of this Hindu temple started from the discovery of the statue of Ganesha by local residents in November 1936. Based on those findings, the archaeologists began to do research on the possibility of a temple at the location of the discovery of the statue. It is assumed that the statue of Ganesha was part of a building structure. Having ascertained the existence of a temple at this location, then performed the excavation, reconstruction and restoration, which took place in 1937 until 1939 under the leadership of Van Romondt.

Entrance to room within the body temple is located on the east side. On both sides of the entrance there are niches where statues. In the recesses of the north there are statues of the southern niche Nandiswara while empty. It is said that there was in the recesses of the Mahakala statue. On the west side (rear) there is a niche that is filled with Ganesha statue that sits on top of a yoni with a trunk leading to the north.
