Travel tour to the city of Bukittinggi is going to provide something different for those of you who want to visit this city. The climate is cool because it is located in the highlands, about 930 m above sea level makes you feel relaxed in this Municipality. The town is located about 90 km from the center of Padang city has turned out many historic old buildings, which is a relic of the Dutch colonial period in Indonesia. One of them is Fort de Kock

Netherlands while occupied city of Bukittinggi. Fort de Kock own name, it is the old name of Bukittinggi. The fort was built during the Padri War, around the year 1825 by Kapt. Bauer. Sturdy building that was built on Mount Jirek, and originally was named Sterrenschans. Then, shortly name was changed to Fort de Kock, by Hendrik Merkus de Kock, who was one of the Dutch military. 

After building the fortress, several years later around the fort is developing a city that also was named Fort de Kock. And now changed its name to the Dutch government Bukittinggi.Semasa, Bukittinggi be used as one of the central government, the city was called as Gemetelyk Resort in 1828. 

Since the year 1825 koloial Dutch government has set up a fort in this city as a place of defense, which until now tourists can see first hand the fortress of Fort de Kock. In addition, the city is not only used as a center of government and the defense for the Dutch colonial government, but also serve as the resting place of the Dutch officers who are in the area towns.

Fort de Kock was also built as a symbol that the Dutch Colonial has successfully occupied the area in West Sumatra. Fortress is a sign of occupation and expansion of Dutch control of Bukittinggi, Agam, and Pasaman. The Dutch are clever to occupy the West Sumatra, they take advantage of internal conflict at the time, namely the conflict between indigenous groups and religious groups. Even the Dutch themselves helped indigenous groups, in order to suppress religious groups during the Padri War in 1821 that lasted until 1837.

Dutch help the indigenous birth to a deal that allowed the Netherlands to build a military defense base built on top of Mount Kaptain Bauer Jirek Hill, who later named Fort de Kock.

After learning a lot about the history of Fort de Kock it helps you relax for a moment at the Wildlife Park and Cultural Kinantan, the location of the fort complex with Dutch heritage. Also in the Zoos complex there is also a Museum of Traditional House Baanjuang.You do not need to be confused upon entering the region, the fort is situated on a hill left of the entrance. While zoos and museums gadang shaped house is located on the hill to the right.

Both are connected by a bridge Limpapeh beneath which is a highway town of Bukit Tinggi. This area is located only 1 km from the center of Bukit Tinggi is the Clock Tower area, precisely in the canal road Renceh Tuanku nan.

From the bridge you can enjoy views of mountains and canyons surrounding the region as Sianok canyon, Mount Merapi, Mount Singgalang, Gung Sago and Mount Pasaman.
