Muara Takus located in the village of Muara Takus, District Thirteen Koto Kampar, Kampar regency, Riau Province. The distance from Pekanbaru, the capital of Riau province, about 128 Km. Travel to the village of Muara Takus can only be done by road, from Pekanbaru in the direction of Bukittinggi arrived at Muara Mahat. From Muara Mahat through a small road leading to the village of Muara Takus. Muara Takus Complex, the only relic of history that shaped temple in Riau. Temple Buddhistis nuances is proof that Buddhism once flourished in this region. Nevertheless, archaeological experts can not determine exactly when this temple was founded. 

There are two opinions about the name Takus Estuary. The first says that the nam was taken from the name of a small creek named Takus which empties into the Kampar River Right. Another opinion says that the Estuary Takus consists of two words: "Estuary" and "Takus". The word "estuary" has a sense of the obvious, namely an end where a river flows into the sea or into a larger river, while the word "Takus" is derived from Chinese, Ta means besarr, I mean old, and Se means temple or shrine . So the overall meaning of the word Takus Estuary is a great old temple, located at the mouth of a river.

The second building called the Temple palace. The building is a square with size 10.44 mx 10.60 m. Height to the peak of 14.30 m standing on octagonal pondamen (astakoma) and bersisikan as many as 28 pieces. At its base there are multiple and lotus in the middle rose a tower that looks like a phallus (yoni).

In 1860, a Dutch archaeologist named Cornel de Groot visit to Muara Takus. At that time on every side he still found the lion statue in a sitting position. Today the statues are no scars. In the east, there is a square terrace with size 5.10 x 5.10 m with a staircase at the front. The volume of 423.20 m3 palace temple building which consists of 275.3 m 3 volume of the foot, the body of 66.6 m3 and 81.3 m3 peak. Temple palace restored starting in 1978 and completed in 1983.
